High Tea

IMG_5068Sometimes, even farm folk get to kick up their heels and enjoy a little vacation. This past week we have been enjoying the company of some wonderful old friends from the west coast. Our destination was sort of a cliche vacation destination- Niagara Falls. Known far and wide as the mecca for honeymooners, Niagara Falls also has a lot to offer some middle aged travelers.

High tea at the Prince of Wales Hotel was a thrill for the female half of the traveling companions, and well tolerated by the male contingent. Scones, tea sandwiches, tarts, miniature quiche (which the Piper insisted on calling “egg pies”),cookies, clotted cream and strawberry jam, and a fabulous pot of tea filled us right up.
The American Falls lit up at night was very surreal and beautiful.
The weather was glorious in its Septemberness. The bright sun allowed us to see the Canadian side of the Falls with a resplendent rainbow. All in all, we had a great time on our little jaunt away from the homestead. PS-the eggs were not nearly as good as home grown!
